Changes to fertiliser rules would be on the table in a future larger trade deal between the UK and the US, President Trump’s agriculture secretary has said.
Brooke Rollins, on a visit to London, said that fertiliser regulations would be “on the table as we’re looking to open up those markets” in any negotiations to build on the trade deal signed between the UK and the US last week.
The US trade representative this year singled out the UK’s rules around agricultural chemicals in a report as an example of one of its unfair trade practices. It noted that, despite leaving the European Union, the UK’s rules around pesticides had continued to be as restrictive as those of the EU.
