LOS ANGELES (KABC) — American retailer Claire’s is shutting down more of its stores amid a second bankruptcy filing, including in Southern California.

Of the 291 stores closing, California has the most at 25. This follows the company’s recent sale of its North American business to the company Ames Watson for $104 million.

Some locations that are closing include: Barstow, Commerce, Lake Arrowhead, Long Beach, and Newport Beach.

The CEO cites increased competition and the ongoing shift by consumers away from brick-and-mortar retail to online shopping.

The retailer of fashion accessories, jewelry, and cosmetics, primarily targets tweens, teens, and young women.
