Content creator Julia Willis shared a viral TikTok video asking, ‘Why are all dresses nowadays made for people to have fake boobs?’
Julia said she was shopping for a wedding guest dress and quickly found that ‘every single dress has no back, you cannot wear a bra with it, it’s spaghetti strap.’
She joked she would have straight ‘chest bone and pecs’ in the dresses, but was thinking about women who had a full C or D cup, who wouldn’t be able to wear the dresses without a bra because there’s no support.
‘Your boobs are just supposed to sit beautifully in the dress,’ Julia complained.
Women quickly flocked to the comments to complain about the skimpy dress options.
One woman agreed that all dresses are now ‘backless, sleeveless, slit up to the hip, body con, and sheer because it’s made of 100 percent polyester.’
‘So sick of finding a cute dress and then scrolling through the photos and realizing that it’s backless,’ another said, which was a common complaint.

Some brought up the fact that these dresses did seem to require breast augmentation to make them easier to wear without any type of bra underneath.
‘Capitalism is ruled under patriarchy, and this is a micro aggression to invalidate women’s natural bodies so we buy into fixing what was never wrong,’ one commenter accused.
‘I have DDD and nothing has support but also can’t be worn with a bra. It’s made for fake or flat chested women. I’m tired,’ a commenter complained.
Fittingly, ‘internal bras,’ a specialized breast lift surgery that gives women a smaller, natural, and perkier look, is a plastic surgery procedure on the rise.
‘I have been saying this for years! Companies have special sections for ‘bra-friendly’… shouldn’t that be the standard?’ another asked.
Trendy celebrity-beloved brands like Reformation offer up a plethora of backless options alongside a much smaller selection of ‘bra-friendly’ options that leave room for straps.
‘I have G cups. I can’t wear these girlie dresses anymore. We are regressing to 2000s fashion,’ another person said.
A woman complained that none of the options are ‘appropriate to wear around family.’
‘I always thought that these were just made for girls with As or Bs but to hear that it doesn’t work for ANYTHING natural makes me even more frustrated,’ a commenter summed it up.

‘On the design side, backless and strappy dresses have been everywhere lately — think ‘quiet luxury’ meets Euro summer,’ Cynthia told DailyMail.com.
‘They’re meant to look effortless and breezy, which appeals to that minimal, vacation-inspired aesthetic that’s been trending on social media and runways alike.’
But it’s not just about following the runway trends; these tops and dresses are also cheaper to produce.
‘From a production standpoint, removing things like linings, back panels, built-in cups, or even structure in the bodice cuts costs significantly,’ Cynthia revealed.
‘Less fabric, fewer sewing steps, and no need for support layers means a lower price to produce.’ By cutting out these steps, fast-fashion retailers can easily save money.
‘Brands may say it’s ‘intentional design,’ but a lot of it comes down to skipping structural features to save time and money,’ Cynthia said.
Unfortunately, the downside is that women with ‘fuller busts or those who just prefer a little more coverage feel left out’ while shopping, according to Cynthia, especially since ‘not every shopper wants to (or can) go braless, and backless designs rarely accommodate that without a little fashion tape and prayer.’
