THIS IS BREAKING NEWS. LESS THAN 24 HOURS AFTER GUNSHOTS RANG OUT AT REYNOLDS HIGH SCHOOL, INVESTIGATORS ARE STILL LOOKING FOR THE PEOPLE INVOLVED. AND THE PERSON WHO PULLED THE TRIGGER. LAW ENFORCEMENT AND SCHOOL DISTRICT LEADERS JUST SPOKE ABOUT THE CASE. WXII 12 JOSHUA DAVIS JOINS US LIVE FROM THE FORSYTH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE. AND JOSHUA, NO ONE IS IN CUSTODY AS OF YET. THAT’S RIGHT. AS OF THIS TIME, NO ONE IS IN CUSTODY. AND SHORTLY BEFORE THIS PRESS CONFERENCE HAPPENED, WXII WAS MADE AWARE OF A POST BY THE FORSYTH COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT ASKING FOR RING CAMERA OWNERS IN THAT AREA TO SHARE ANY FOOTAGE THAT THEY MAY HAVE THAT COULD LEAD TO AN ARREST OR LEAD TO ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE SUSPECTS. I ASKED SHERIFF BOBBY KIMBROUGH ABOUT THAT POST, ABOUT THAT INFORMATION, AND HE COULD NOT CONFIRM IF THAT WAS ASKED IF THAT WAS ACCURATE, BECAUSE THAT POST DID DETAIL SOME DETAILS ABOUT THE SUSPECTS. NOW, THIS PRESS CONFERENCE WAS A LOT OF WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW, INCLUDING THE FACT THAT SHERIFF’S AND SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES GOT THE CALL AROUND 345 THAT THIS HAPPENED OUTSIDE REYNOLDS HIGH SCHOOL. A MALE STUDENT WAS SHOT AND THEN SENT TO THE HOSPITAL. NOW, SHERIFF BOBBY KIMBROUGH SAID THAT HE SPOKE TO THE MOTHER. HE SPOKE TO THE VICTIM AND THAT THE VICTIM IS RECOVERING. WE ALSO HEARD FROM SUPERINTENDENT TRICIA MCMANUS. SHE SAID AS SOON AS THE DISTRICT WAS NOTIFIED ABOUT THE SHOOTING, THE SCHOOL WAS IMMEDIATELY SENT INTO LOCKDOWN, LEADING TO STUDENTS BEING TAKEN LATER TO CLOVERDALE AVENUE TO REUNITE WITH THEIR PARENTS. THOSE ARE THE DETAILS WE DO KNOW, BUT WE STILL HAVE A LOT OF DETAILS THAT WE DON’T KNOW. BUT SOMETHING WE DID HEAR TIME AND TIME AGAIN IS CALLS FOR THIS COMMUNITY TO PUT THE GUNS DOWN. THINGS RAN SO SMOOTHLY YESTERDAY THAT IT WAS SCARY, AND THEY REMINDED ME THAT WE’VE DONE THIS TOO MANY TIMES BEFORE IN THIS COMMUNITY. A SHOOTING IN OUR COMMUNITY. WE’VE DONE THIS TOO MANY TIMES. WHILE THE YOUNG MAN WILL BE ALL RIGHT. HE’LL NEVER FORGET WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM YESTERDAY. THE PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECT. HE’LL NEVER WALK THE SAME WAY. BUT I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT AS A COMMUNITY, WE ARE BETTER THAN THIS. WE’VE GOT TO DO BETTER. AND AS YOU HEARD SHERIFF KIMBROUGH SAY THERE, WHILE THE SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT AND THIS DISTRICT IS PROUD THAT THINGS WERE ABLE TO GO SMOOTHLY AS THEY NAVIGATED THIS, THIS TRAUMATIC EVENT, IT’S A SIGN THAT THEY’VE GONE THROUGH THIS ALL TOO OFTEN. IN WINSTON-SALEM, I’M JOSHUA DAVIS FOR WXII 12 NEWS. CERTAINLY TOO MANY TIMES, JOSHUA. THANK YOU. THE SUPERINTENDENT CONFIRMING AROUND 600 STUDENTS DID NOT GO TO SCHOOL TODAY AT R.J. REYNOLDS HIGH SCHOOL. MANY TELLING OUR ERIN BURNETT THEY ARE WORRIED FOR THEIR SAFETY. WE HAVE SEEN SOME EXTRA PATROLS AROUND CAMPUS HERE AT R.J. REYNOLDS HIGH SCHOOL. FORSYTH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS AT LEAST SIX DEPUTIESHAVE BEEN ASSIGNED TO CAMPUS TODAY, AND THE DISTRICT SAYS THAT STUDENTS WENT THROUGH METAL DETECTORS. SOME PARENTS ARE QUESTIONING IF THAT’S ENOUGH, GIVEN THE OPEN DESIGN OF THE SCHOOL WITH MULTIPLE ENTRY POINTS. I TALKED WITH A WOMAN WHO SAS HER BROTHER DID NOT GO TO CLASS TODAY BECAUSE OF YESTERDAY’S SHOOTING, AND FOR THOSE WHO DID, IT WAS MIXED EMOTIONS. SOME PARENTS SAY THEIR KIDS ARE OKAY, WHILE OTHERS ARE STILL PROCESSING WHAT HAPPENED. I STILL HAVE LOTS OF QUESTIONS WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW AND YOU’RE NOT PART OF THE THE SYSTEM OR THE PLAN, AND IT’S NOT CLEAR. I DON’T, I’M VERY WORRIED ABOUT HIM BEING HERE TODAY. HOPE AND PRAY ALL THE VIOLENCE. IT JUST STOPPED BECAUSE IT’S UNNECESSARY FOR KIDS TO BE KILLING EACH OTHER, YOU KNOW, OVER NONSENSE. I ALSO TALKED WITH THE MOM WHO TELLS ME HER DAUGHTER WAS IN THE BUILDING STUDYING WHEN THEY WENT INTO LOCKDOWN. SHE SEEMED FINE INITIALLY, BUT AS THE NIGHT WENT ON AND AS SHE WAS KIND OF TALKING TO FRIENDS AND PROCESSING, THERE WAS JUST CONCERNS AROUND. YEAH, JUST SAFETY TODAY. AND SHE WAS LIKE, I HOPE THERE’S METAL DETECTORS. I HOPE THAT THERE’S MORE SECURITY TOMORROW. AND IT’S JUST KIND OF A SAD CONVERSATION TO BE HAVING WITH YOUR KID. IN WINSTON-SALEM, I’M ERIN BURNETT, WXII 12 NEWS. YEAH. PARENTS UNDERSTANDABLY WORRIED TODAY. BASKETBALL GAMES BETWEEN REYNOLDS AND PARKLAND THAT WERE SCHEDULED FOR YESTERDAY HAVE BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR THIS SATURDAY. THE VARSITY GIRLS WILL PLAY AT 2 P.M. THE BOYS WILL PLAY AT 330. AND WE WILL, OF COURSE, BRING YOU UPDATES REGARDING THIS INVESTIGATION AS THEY COME INTO OUR NEWSROOM ALL THROUGHOUT THE DAY. IT IS A WXII 12 FIRST WARNING WEATHER IMPACT DAY, AND WE HAVE A LIVE LOOK FROM OUR CAM AND GRAHAM. THIS AFTERNOON. RAIN FALLING. NOW AS YOU SEE THOSE RAINDROPS ON THE LENS. TEMPS ARE ALSO EXPECTED TO TUMBLE. METEOROLOGIST MICHELLE KENNEDY JOINING US RIGHT NOW TO TELL US ALL ABOUT IT. AND MICHELLE, I EVEN NOTICED A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WHEN I WOKE UP AND WENT OUTSIDE THIS MORNING. HOW MUCH COLDER IT’S GOTTEN. JUST, YOU KNOW, WITHIN A FEW HOURS. YES. THE 60S WERE SO LOVELY, WEREN’T THEY? AND NOW WE’RE TALKING ABOUT 50S AND TUMBLING INTO THE 40S FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS. YOU’VE ALSO GOT TEMPERATURES QUICKLY DROPPING UP IN THE MOUNTAINS, SNOW SHOWERS. THEY’RE ALSO BUILDING, ESPECIALLY ON THOSE WESTERN SLOPES AS WE HEAD INTO TENNESSEE. THIS IS WHERE WE HAVE SOME WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES FOR FOLKS THERE. BUT WE’RE ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT THE WINDS. TODAY. YOU’RE NOTICING THE SNOW IS STARTING TO FALL. AND THAT CAN AFFECT A LOT OF FOLKS UP IN THE HIGHER PEAKS AS WE GO INTO THE AFTERNOON HOURS. THAT’S WHAT WE’LL EXPECT TO SEE SOME BLUSTERY CONDITIONS, NO WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES FOR THE MOUNTAINS YET, BUT WE DO HAVE SOME FLOOD CONCERNS FOR FOLKS HERE UP INTO THE FOOTHILLS, AS SOME OF THESE AREAS HAVE SEEN ANYWHERE FROM 3 TO 5IN JUST WITHIN THE LAST WEEK AND A HALF OR SO. AND THOSE SHOWER CHANCES CONTINUE TO FALL FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS. THAT’S ALL GOING TO BE CHANGING, THOUGH, AS WE GET YOU CLOSER TO 3:00, THINGS ARE DRYING OUT. FROM WEST TO EAST. WE’VE GOT 70/600 OF AN INCH OF RAIN SO FAR. JUST TODAY IN WINSTON-SALEM, THREE INCHES IN MOUNT AIRY. THAT’S A LOT OF RAIN, FOLKS, AND ONE INCH IN BURLINGTON. AND NOTICING THAT WE’RE SEEING THAT TRANSITION RIGHT NOW WITH THAT BLOWING SNOW, WE HAVE CONCERNS FOR WINTER TRAVEL IN TENNESSEE AND PARTS OF VIRGINIA, BUT THEN WE ALSO HAVE WIND ADVISORIES GUSTS TO 55 MILES AN HOUR. SO WE MAY SEE SOME DRYING ON THE ROADS. BUT I DO THINK REFREEZE MIGHT BE AN ISSUE FOR FOLKS TOMORROW MORNING. SO EXPECTING SOME POSSIBLE SCHOOL DELAYS UP IN THE MOUNTAINS FROM VIRGINIA INTO NORTH CAROLINA. WE’LL TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THE COLD, BLUSTERY CONDITIONS EXPECTED IN THE TRIAD, TOO. THAT’S COMING UP FOR YOU THIS AFTERNOON. WE’LL HAVE MORE. ALL RIGHT, MICHELLE, THANK YOU. FORSYTH COUNTY DEPUTIES ARE INVESTIGATING A FIGHT AT GLENN HIGH SCHOOL IN KERNERSVILLE. AND A STATEMENT SENT BY THE SCHOOL’S PRINCIPAL TO FAMILIES HE CALLS LAST WEEK’S INCIDENT AN ISOLATED EVENT CAUSED BY OFF CAMPUS ISSUES. DISTRICT LEADERS SAY THE TWO PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THE FIGHT ARE STUDENTS. THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS NO CHARGES HAVE BEEN FILED AGAINST THOSE INVOLVED IN THAT FIGHT. EVERYONE INVOLVED IS A MINOR. TODAY MARKS ONE WEEK SINCE THE UNITED HEALTH CARE CEO WAS KILLED. THE SUSPECTED GUNMAN IS IN JAIL IN PENNSYLVANIA, CONTESTING HIS EXTRADITION BACK TO NEW YORK. LUIGI MANGIONE SHOUTED AT REPORTERS YESTERDAY BEFORE HEADING INTO COURT. NEW YORK PROSECUTORS CHARGED MANGIONE WITH MURDER, AND POLICE SAY THEY FOUND A DOCUMENT ON HIM THAT CRITICIZED CORPORATE AMERICA AND ONLY HAD A REFERENCE TO UNITED HEALTH CARE WITH THE WORDS THESE PARASITES HAD IT COMING. I DO APOLOGIZE FOR ANY STRIFE AND TRAUMA, BUT IT HAD TO BE DONE. MANGIONE’S FORMER ROOMMATE SAYS THEY STARTED A BOOK CLUB THAT, AMONG OTHER THINGS, LOOKED AT THE UNABOMBER MANIFESTO. NOTHING ABOUT IT, I THINK, STOOD OUT MORE THAN OTHER CONVERSATIONS THAT WE HAD. AND POLICE SAY THEY ALSO FOUND MULTIPLE FAKE IDS, A PASSPORT AND A GUN WITH A SILENCER. NEW YORK GOVERNOR KATHY HOCHUL SAYS SHE WILL SIGN A WARRANT TO HAVE HIM EXTRADITED, BUT HIS LAWYERS SAY THEY ARE FIGHTING EXTRADITION AND HAVE NOT YET ENTERED A PLEA. NORTH CAROLINA LAWMAKERS ARE BACK IN SESSION IN RALEIGH, AND THEY ARE EXPECTED TO VOTE ON A BILL THAT COULD HAVE MAJOR IMPACTS ON STATE GOVERNMENT. THE HOUSE PLANS ON OVERRIDING GOVERNOR ROY COOPER’S VETO OF SENATE BILL 382. THE PROPOSAL INCLUDES MONEY FOR HELENE RELIEF, BUT IT ALSO STRIPS POWER FROM THE INCOMING GOVERNOR, ATTORNEY GENERAL AND OTHER OFFICES WON BY DEMOCRATS IN THE NOVEMBER ELECTION. THE SENATE VOTED THIS PAST WEEK TO OVERRIDE THE GOVERNOR’S VETO TO COMMITMENT 2024. NOW, THE STATE BOARD OF ELECTIONS IS SET TO HEAR ARGUMENTS ON BALLOT PROTESTS IN A CLOSE, STATE SUPREME COURT RACE. THE BOARD SAYS DEMOCRAT ALISON RIGGS PICKED UP MORE VOTES OVER REPUBLICAN JEFFERSON GRIFFIN IN THE PARTIAL HAND COUNT. SHE ALSO HAD A 700 PLUS VOTE LEAD IN THE MACHINE RECOUNT. GRIFFIN IS PROTESTING WHETHER 60,000 BALLOTS CAST IN THE RACE SHOULD HAVE BEEN COUNTED. NEW AT NOON NORTH CAROLINA BASED KRISPY KREME SAYS IT WAS HIT WITH A CYBER ATTACK. THE DONUT CHAIN SAYS IT IS STILL STRUGGLING NOW TO FULFILL ONLINE ORDERS. SINCE DETECTING UNAUTHORIZED ACTIVITY LAST MONTH ON SOME OF ITS TECHNOLOGY. KRISPY KREME SAYS IT HAS NOTIFIED FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT. THE COMPANY EXPECTS THE HACK WILL HURT ITS BOTTOM LINE, BUT KRISPY KREME SAYS THE FULL SCOPE AND
