Form: Germany cruised through qualifying, with a 3-0 defeat by Iceland their only blip as they topped their group.

The Olympic bronze medallists are on a fine run of form, winning their last five games in the Nations League and scoring at least four goals in each of those, including a 4-0 thrashing of 2017 European champions the Netherlands.

Tournament hopes: Having won the competition a record eight times – out of the 11 tournaments they have entered – Germany will always be expected to go far.

However, success is not guaranteed. After reaching the final of the Euros in 2022, Germany crashed out of the group stage at the World Cup a year later – finishing behind Colombia and Morocco.

Christian Wuck, who took charge after the Paris Olympics, will be without highly rated midfielder Lena Oberdorf. The 23-year-old won the best young player award at Euro 2022 but has failed to recover from a knee injury. However, they have plenty of other attacking threats at their disposal, including Bayern Munich duo Lea Schuller and Klara Buhl.
