When Manchester City completed the signing of the prolific Erling Haaland back in 2022, fans and pundits alike were purring at the prospect of the Norwegian goal machine slotting into Pep Guardiola’s serial-winning team. Since then, it’s safe to say those who were backing Haaland to flourish under the Spaniard have been proven right. The towering striker broke the record for the most amount of goals scored in a single Premier League season in his opening campaign with the Sky Blues, scoring a mesmerising 36 in the English top-flight.
Although he hasn’t matched that particular feat since, the goals have continued to flow, and the Premier League record Haaland boasts under Guardiola’s stewardship is incredible. The Norwegian has now scored 94 goals in just 104 matches in the English top-flight. That budding relationship has now entered the top 10 of a special Premier League record – the most goals scored under a single manager in the division. But where does it now rank? And which other duos are above them? Let’s find out.
The most Premier League goals scored under a single manager
Leading the way is the iconic French duo of striker Thierry Henry and manager Arséne Wenger. The dazzling forward scored 175 Premier League goals under his compatriot for Arsenal. In second place is the Egyptian king, Mohamed Salah. The winger accumulated 155 goals in the English top-flight under former boss Jürgen Klopp for Liverpool. In third is former England captain Wayne Rooney who scored 141 Premier League goals at Manchester United under the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson. In fourth is Harry Kane – the Englishman scored 128 English top-flight goals at Tottenham with Mauricio Pochettino in the dugout.
In fifth and sixth are two Man United former heroes in Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes. The Welshman scored 108 Premier League goals under Ferguson, whilst midfielder Scholes notched 106 times under the Scotsman. Former Dutch striker Robin van Persie is seventh after scoring 96 top-flight goals under Wenger. He is followed by compatriot Ruud van Nistelrooy in eighth – he scored 95 Premier League goals with Ferguson as boss. Haaland and Guardiola now sit ninth on the list, but by the end of this season will likely be in the top five. Andy Cole completes the top 10 having scored 93 times in the Premier League under Ferguson.
