TUSCALOOSA — Folks lined the fences at Tuscaloosa National Airport on Saturday eagerly awaiting the arrival of Donald Trump.
Last Thursday, the University of Alabama confirmed that the former president and current Republican presidential candidate would be in attendance for Alabama football’s first SEC matchup against Georgia.
It won’t be Trump’s first time watching the Crimson Tide. Nor will it be his first time watching Alabama play Georgia.
While in office, Trump made it to Atlanta to witness Alabama claim the national championship against the Bulldogs at the 2018 College Football Playoff national championship game, better known to Crimson Tide fans as “second-and-26.”
Trump’s first appearance at Bryant-Denny Stadium came in 2019 for Alabama’s game vs. No. 2 LSU. That night, Joe Burrow and the Tigers defeated the Crimson Tide, 46-41, a No. 3-ranked Alabama’s only loss that season. LSU went on to win the 2020 national championship in a game against Clemson, which marked one of six college football games that Trump would attend in office.
