Disney+ set to stop working on certain TVs in UK soon

Subscribers have been told the service will no longer be available on certain devices from next month. But it is unclear which devices.

In an email to users, the immensely popular streamer said it will stop working on some older streaming players from December 1.

The email stated: “Thank you for being part of the Disney+ community.

“We’re so glad you’ve enjoyed everything we have to offer, from blockbuster movies, to brand-new series and exclusive originals.

“Because some devices, especially older smart TVs or streaming devices, may lack the technical capability to run the latest Disney+ app or meet the necessary performance standards for streaming, it’s necessary for us to withdraw support for older devices.

“Starting December 1, 2025, the Disney+ app will no longer be supported on select older Apple devices and this change may affect the devices you currently use to stream Disney+.”

However, the email did not provide further details of why particular devices would not be compatible with the app.

A user on Reddit shared a copy of the email, which can be viewed here , saying: “Haven’t been able to find a list of devices that would be considered “obsolete” as of yet.

“I do have some older 1st generation Apple TV 4K’s as well as I think maybe 2nd or 3rd generation Apple TV’s that haven’t been used in years. I never really saw a need to update to newer Apple TV’s as they work fine for what little tv we do watch on them.

“Has anyone else gotten this yet? If so what devices are you logged in on that could be considered older?”

Others received similar.

One said: “I got this email this morning & am now trawling around for info. the Disney help center still list iOS /ipadOS / tvOS 16.5 or later, but I think that’s the current requirement, not the new one coming on 1st Dec. and i’ve not found the new one anywhere.”

“I got this email too, and I have an iPhone 13 Pro and no tvs?

“My SO has an older phone and didn’t receive an email, not sure what is going on or if it is a phishing attempt?”

Newsquest has approached Disney+ for comment.
