Miao Hua, one of the top generals at China’s powerful Central Military Commission (CMC), has been placed under investigation for suspected serious violation of rules, the defence ministry said.
He has been suspended from duty, the ministry said on Thursday.
The announcement comes a day after the Financial Times reported that Defence Minister Dong Jun was under investigation for alleged corruption. China’s foreign ministry dismissed the report as “groundless”.
Miao was last seen in public on October 7, when he attended the 70th anniversary celebrations of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, a state-run paramilitary organisation in the western Uygur autonomous region.
