Bethwell Kipkemboi won Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon on Sunday, and Kenya’s men took the first three places on a day when visitors dominated the city’s flagship athletics event.
Kipkemboi crossed the line at Victoria Park in two hours, 11 minutes and 13 seconds, with Kennedy Kipyeko taking second in 2:11:35. Their compatriot Vincent Kiprono was third in 2:11:49.
Earlier, runners from mainland China ruled the men’s half-marathon and 10km, while Hong Kong’s women swept the board in their events.
He Yingbing won the men’s half-marathon, crossing the line at Victoria Park in one hour, five minutes and 36 seconds. He was followed home by compatriot Sun Xiaoyang in 1:06:11. Hong Kong’s Vincent Lam was third in 1:07:38.
In the women’s race, 36-year-old Christy Yiu Kit-ching crossed the line in 1:15:09, with Wong Cheuk-ning was second in 1:19:58, followed by 2021 half-marathon winner Crystal Vut Tsz-ying in 1:20:08.
In the 10km, 19-year-old Liu Aiyan finished just fractions ahead of his friend Lan Jiehuai, 23, in 30:16s, while Hong Kong traithlete Wong Tsz-to was third in 30:43.
