Police are investigating the discovery of a human skeleton in southern Hong Kong.

Officers revealed on Friday that the remains of a woman were located on a slope near a basketball court in Ap Lei Chau Park in Aberdeen.

The force received a report over the case at 3pm on Thursday. Preliminary forensic examinations suggest it is a female skeleton.

A team from Western district crime squad is investigating.

The city has recorded cases of human skeletons being discovered on hillsides or in the sea in the past.

In December last year, a fisherman dredged up what was thought to be a human jawbone while out in waters southwest of the city.
