Developing | 30 missing, homes buried in landslide in southwest China

At least 30 people are missing after a landslide in southwestern China on Saturday, according to state media.

The landslide occurred in the village of Jinping in Sichuan province at around 11.50am, burying at least 10 houses, state broadcaster CCTV reported. The village is part of the city of Yibin.

Emergency workers pulled two people trapped in the debris to safety, Junlian county’s emergency management bureau said in the afternoon.

The bureau also said local authorities had established an emergency rescue command centre.

Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered “every effort to search for those who went missing and to minimise casualties”.
