Cumbria art gallery exhibits at prestigious Saatchi Gallery

Castlegate House Gallery in Cockermouth was selected to exhibit at this year’s British Art Fair, held at the Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea over the weekend.

The fair is one of the UK’s most prestigious events for modern and contemporary British art, featuring leading galleries from across the country.

Steve Swallow, co-owner of Castlegate House Gallery, said: “We may be based in Cumbria, but we’ve always believed that great art knows no boundaries.

“To be exhibiting alongside the country’s most established galleries and artists at the British Art Fair, something we have proudly been doing for many years now, is both an honour and a statement that a gallery from the Lake District can stand confidently on one of the art world’s biggest stages.”

Castlegate House Gallery is known for its focus on Modern British masters such as Sheila Fell, Norman Cornish, Frank Auerbach, Winifred Nicholson, and Percy Kelly, as well as its support of emerging talent.

This year, the gallery presented a curated selection that included works by contemporary artists Stefan Orlowski and Craig Simpson.

Mr Simpson joined Mr Swallow at the fair throughout the weekend.

Owned by Steve and Christine Swallow, the gallery continues to promote both established and emerging artists while celebrating its roots in Cumbria.

The Saatchi Gallery, founded by Charles Saatchi, is widely regarded as London’s leading venue for contemporary art.
