Frank Suarez, president and CEO of the Connecticut Lottery Corporation, said the security of players is a top priority and everything will be done to protect them.
WALLINGFORD, Conn. — The Connecticut Lottery Corporation, or CT Lottery, is warning players across the state to remain mindful of various scams that are attempting to steal their money.
CT Lottery officials say that fraudulent websites and apps are posing as official platforms. They look real, but really, they’re not.
CT Lottery President and CEO Frank Suarez pledged to do all that is possible to ensure the scams don’t wreak havoc in Connecticut.
“The security of our players is a top priority, and we will do everything we can to protect them,” Suarez said, in a CT Lottery release on Friday.
According to CT Lottery officials, the fake advertisements have primarily been appearing on Facebook and Instagram.
They illegally feature the CT Lottery’s logo, scratch and draw game images, app icons and other Connecticut imagery, as they try to trick users into being baited.
When a victim clicks the ad, they are directed to third-party sites that quickly prompt them to register and provide banking information, including cryptocurrency requests.
Those who spot one of these ads on social media are encouraged to report it immediately through the platform’s fraud reporting tool. Players can also contact CT Lottery with further questions or click that link to learn more about lottery scams.
To avoid being scammed, residents should know that the CT Lottery does not sell tickets through social media ads.
One should also never offer banking, credit card or cryptocurrency information to an unverified source claiming to be affiliated with the CT Lottery.
Furthermore, one should always download the official CT Lottery app directly from the App Store or at this link.
