Cool, wet for Hongkongers on Thursday but temperature set to rise in coming days

Hongkongers woke up to cool and wet weather on Thursday as temperatures dipped to 17 degrees Celsius in urban areas, with the mercury dropping to as low as 13 degrees on the city’s highest peak.

Temperatures are forecast to rise slightly over the next five days to between 19 and 24 degrees with sunny periods expected before dropping next Wednesday to 16 degrees, according to the Hong Kong Observatory.

The forecaster said the weather on Thursday would be cloudy with occasional rain, with the maximum temperature rising to around 21 degrees.

“The northeast monsoon is bringing cool weather to the coastal areas of Guangdong. Locally, temperatures in the urban areas were about 17 degrees on [Thursday] morning, and a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories,” the forecaster said.

“Besides, a broad band of rain and clouds is covering the coast of southern China.”

The temperature in urban areas such as Kowloon City and Sham Shui Po was around 17 degrees shortly after 9am.
