The university’s governing council on Friday endorsed molecular geneticist Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, the sole candidate for the role, paving the way for him to succeed Professor Rocky Tuan Sung-chi as president and vice-chancellor on January 8.
Council member Lau Kwok-fan confirmed that the governing body voted unanimously for Lo, who will serve a five-year term.
Lo, who has worked for the university for 27 years, is a pioneer of non-invasive prenatal testing. He is the director of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences at CUHK, and the associate research dean at the university’s medical faculty.
An insider earlier told the Post that Lo, 60, would be offered a pay package similar to the outgoing president.
