28th June 2025 – (Hong Kong) According to a notification from the Ministry of National Defence via WeChat, approved by the Central Military Commission, a naval fleet comprising the aircraft carrier Shandong, missile destroyers Yan’an and Zhanjiang, and missile frigate Yuncheng will be visiting Hong Kong from 3rd to 7th July. The visit aims to facilitate a series of open tours and cultural exchanges, providing the people of Hong Kong with a firsthand and in-depth understanding of the current state of national defense and military development in the new era.
Shandong, the first entirely domestically designed, constructed, and equipped Chinese aircraft carrier, officially joined the Chinese Navy in December 2019, marking the nation’s entry into the era of domestically produced aircraft carriers. In May 2020, Shandong commenced military missions at sea, conducting its first sailing training post-commissioning, indicative of its initial combat readiness. Subsequently, from experimental trials in the Bohai Sea to training in the South China Sea, the carrier ventured into deep waters, successfully completing over 10 significant training tasks including its first live-fire exercises and cross-regional manoeuvres.
