Moscow/Kazan, Oct 23 (EFE).- Chinese President Xi Jinping called for a swift de-escalation in Ukraine and an immediate cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
Speaking at the BRICS summit in Kazan, Xi emphasized the need to avoid actions that fuel further conflict, urging peaceful resolutions in the affected regions.
“We need to help bring about an early de-escalation in Ukraine and achieve an early end to hostilities and killings in Gaza and Lebanon,” Xi said during his speech in Kazan, Russia.
To achieve de-escalation in Ukraine, Xi emphasized the need to “stop adding fuel to the fire,” warning against actions that exacerbate tensions.
“The Ukrainian crisis is dragging on,” Xi noted, calling for measures to prevent “secondary effects from the expansion of hostilities” and to avoid actions that could escalate the conflict.
Xi recalled a six-point settlement plan proposed by China and Brazil, which has been rejected by Ukraine. He discussed the matter with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov added that several countries attending the summit expressed a desire to play a more active role in mediating the Ukrainian conflict.

“We welcome these efforts,” Peskov said, noting Russia’s openness to mediators such as India, China, and Brazil in future peace talks with Ukraine.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, reiterated India’s support for resolving the Ukraine conflict through peaceful means.
“We fully support the early restoration of peace and stability,” Modi said, emphasizing the priority his country places on human life and its readiness to assist in achieving peace. EFE
