On January 11, a seminar on technological innovation and the development of new protein foods was held in Fengtai, Beijing, as part of the region’s innovation initiatives. The event was themed “Smart Manufacturing for a Shared Future” and organized by the People’s Government of Fengtai District and Beijing Shounong Food Group Co., Ltd. (Shounong Food Group).
During the seminar, the China Meat Food Research Center’s New Protein Food Technology Innovation Hub was officially launched, marking the establishment of China’s first dedicated new protein technology innovation center in Fengtai.
According to a report, with an investment of over $11 million, this cutting-edge facility in Beijing’s Fengtai District serves as a cornerstone of the new Beijing International Science and Technology Innovation Center. At the launch event, organizers presented various prototype products, such as marbled cultivated steak and protein bars derived from microbial fermentation.
Pilot-scale bioreactors and production lines
According to the report, the New Protein Food Technology Innovation Hub will feature advanced research and development platforms for cultivated meat and microbial protein, supported by state-of-the-art laboratories.
The facility is expected to include two 2,000-liter pilot-scale bioreactors for cultivated meat production, along with three pilot-scale microbial protein production lines, consisting of two 2,000-liter units and one 5,000-liter unit.
Additionally, a 200-liter cultivated meat production line and a 2,000-liter microbial protein production line are already operational. This cutting-edge infrastructure is designed to accelerate the industrialization of alternative proteins, bridging the gap between research and large-scale production.
