HONG KONG — China’s Communist Party-controlled journalism association has bestowed its top annual reporting award to an English-language article by state news agency Xinhua on President Xi Jinping’s reelection — potentially reflecting the government’s emphasis on shaping global perceptions.
The All-China Journalists Association, which has been handing out the awards since 1991, typically dishes out top prizes to party and state-owned news organizations. This time, the Xinhua report was one of four given top honors at an award ceremony in Beijing on Friday — alongside reports by the party mouthpiece People’s Daily, state-owned broadcaster CCTV, and the military’s People’s Liberation Army Daily.
