China Says TSMC Will Be Called “United States” Manufacturing Co If Expansion Into The Nation Continues As Ongoing
There’s no doubt that TSMC is now massively inclined towards US chip ambitions, not only because of the opportunities in the region but also because of the Trump administration’s influence on the tariff threat given to the firm. The Taiwan giant has rapidly expanded investments in the United States, and in light of this, China’s spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office claims that TSMC is one of the souvenirs given by Taiwan to foreign nations in order to gain an edge in the race for independence.
In order to seek selfish gain, the Democratic Progressive Party authorities have freely made demands from external forces, using Taiwan’s semiconductor industry and powerful companies to get a foot in the door to relying on foreign countries to seek independence and even give them away as souvenirs.

The US has become TSMC’s biggest investment nation, and the company is said to have planned massive expansion in the future, bringing the production of cutting-edge technologies away from Taiwan. We recently reported on how 4nm manufacturing has already been initiated in TSMC’s Arizona facility and plans to scale it up to 2nm in the upcoming years. This shows the dedication the Taiwan giant has towards catering to US semiconductor plans, and this apparently isn’t something China is happy with.
Moreover, China believes that TSMC will ultimately evolve into “United States Semiconductor Manufacturing Co,” given the firm’s sudden change in stance. TSMC is in a pretty tight position in terms of geopolitics for now, where, on one side, it sees comments from the likes of US President Donald Trump, who claims that Taiwan is essentially stealing the US’s chip technology and should pay for it, and on the other, it faces criticism from China when it comes to expanding into the US.
For now, it is evident that TSMC has sided with the US administration about its future ambitions, with the end goal of having a “backup production” region if things between China and Taiwan start to escalate. And, this means that global semiconductor dynamics will tilt away from Taiwan.
