Charter flights from China set to return | Local News

WITH the resumption of Economic Vitality & Security Travel Authorization Program application processing for Chinese tourists, Hong Kong Airlines is bringing back its charter flights to Saipan starting Sept. 21, 2025, according to LT Travel Co., Ltd., the tour agency that caters to travelers from China.

In an interview on Friday, LT Travel Co., Ltd. General Manager Ken Chen said that after hearing from the Marianas Visitors Authority about the approval of EVS-TAP applications, the company shared the good news with Hong Kong Airlines, which then agreed to restart its charter flight services to Saipan.

Chen said that over 1,400 tourists from China visit the CNMI every month. Hong Kong Airlines, he noted, had previously operated two charter flights to Saipan each week — on Sundays and Thursdays. Half of the airline seats on each flight are reserved for Century Travel Agency, he added.

He also said that EVS-TAP applications for April, May, and June have already been approved. Applications for July have been submitted and are currently under review.

Chen said a travel permit under EVS-TAP allows Chinese tourists to stay in the CNMI for up to 14 days per visit and is valid for one year — meaning tourists can return as often as they like within that one-year period.

He further stated that the charter flights beginning Sept. 21, 2025, will continue through April 28, 2026, the duration of LT Travel’s contract with Hong Kong Airlines.

LT Travel and its partner agency, ShenZhen Professional Workers INT’L Travel Service Co., Ltd., announced in early May that, due to delays in EVS-TAP processing, Hong Kong Airlines had to temporarily suspend its charter flights to Saipan.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, Chinese tourists accounted for over 48% of CNMI visitors, with direct flights from multiple Chinese cities.
