Summer Best
If you find yourself on First Hill this summer, don’t be surprised if you spot a boldly dressed Cezar Bautista striding past. The Filipino-born, Alaska-raised fashionisto’s outfits lean into a strong street style aesthetic with eye-catching threads from his culture.
Bautista, who was once a Nordstrom salesperson and personal shopper and now works in ad sales, brings intention to every outfit and thrives on “helping bring out someone’s personal style and refining their wardrobe so they present at their best.” This interview has been edited for length and clarity.
How did this outfit come together, and what inspired it?
This top is a traditional Tagalog barong, often worn in the Philippines for weddings and formal occasions. I reworked it by cropping the hem and cutting the sleeves to make it my own. If I’m going to an event or party (I love a theme), I usually plan my outfit ahead of time. But if I’m getting ready for a casual get-together, I like to consider what the events of the evening are going to be.
How would you describe your personal style?
My style is rooted in growing up in the ’90s, with layering from the ’80s, and inspiration from classic anime. Think romance meets edge. And I like to be intentional; if I’m wearing a piece that separates with a zipper, it’s coming off at some point.
What are your thoughts on Seattle fashion in the summer?
I love how expressive people are. In Seattle, style reflects the vibe of each neighborhood. Some looks aren’t for everyone, but I respect how bold and intentional people are. It’s been fun exploring local events and finding inspiration everywhere. And no — we haven’t mastered dressing for the heat waves. Layering is key.
