The 2025 Oscars red carpet was a feast of glamour, risk-taking, and a few missteps. While some celebrities delivered standout fashion moments, others left us wondering what went wrong.
Rare Miss
I’m usually all in for Anok Yai’s style and Marni’s custom creations, but this strapless siren gown was a rare miss. The craftsmanship felt off, and the golden brown hue didn’t complement her radiant complexion. The chocolate brown feather boa tried its best to save the moment, but instead, it just emphasised what wasn’t working. The only real win here? Those dazzling De Beers jewels.

A Vision In White
One glance at Bruna Marquezine’s snatched waist and you instantly knew this was an Atelier Versace design. If there’s one thing Donatella Versace knows inside and out, it’s corsetry—and this gown was a masterclass in sculpting the body. A lesson in pure bombshell energy. Giuseppe Zanotti Raquel pumps completed her look.

Serving Yellow
Coco Gauff traded her tennis whites for a stunning custom Miu Miu yellow gown dripping in the label’s signature crystal embroidery. The vibrant hue brought an undeniable radiance to the red carpet, proving that she’s just as commanding in couture as she is on the court. Elegant, effortless, and a winning look from the rising star.

Delightful Debut
Making her Oscars red carpet debut, Coco Jones did not come to play. She delivered a stunning moment in this custom Coach silk tulle and chiffon gown, layered over a duchess satin corset. What made this look even more special? The gown was crafted from repurposed vintage evening dresses, keeping with Coach’s tradition of giving new life to pre-loved materials. The finishing touches—Coach’s strappy black velvet sandals featuring a delicate “C” charm, a chic clutch, and a Harry Kotlar necklace—sealed this moment with elegance.

Thumbs up, from the waist up
If you’re anything like me, the first thing you thought when you saw Connie Nielsen’s Elie Saab Spring 2025 Haute Couture gown was: “I just wish the skirt wasn’t so sheer.” The bodice was exquisite, but I’m not into this from the waist down for her. Vintage emerald jewels from Joseph Saidian & Sons, along with Zydo diamond earrings and a diamond ring by Kallati completed her look.

You just knew this was Ralph Lauren
There’s no doubt that H.E.R.’s custom metallic lamé gown, embellished with over 66,000 crystal stones, was designed by Ralph Lauren—the leather belt was the biggest giveaway, though I don’t think the gown needed it. Chopard jewels perfectly completed her look.

Dolce & Gabbana Devotee
Isabella Rossellini wrapped up her awards season in another custom Dolce & Gabbana look that felt like it was made for a queen. The elegant draping from the shoulder gave this gown a regal touch, while her stunning Bvlgari jewels elevated the entire moment. Timeless, sophisticated, and exactly what we’d expect from the screen legend.

Redemption?
You weren’t fans of her César Film Awards Alaïa dress, but Léna Mahfouf rebounded beautifully in this sculptural Ashi Studio creation. The structured bodice was perfection, though I wouldn’t blame anyone for thinking the skirt was just a little too long. However, this was a much stronger showing this time around.

Demna will claim those creases at Purposeful
Balenciaga dressing an Oscar winner in a gown that creases? Say it ain’t so. While this shade of blue was an undeniable improvement from some of Michelle Yeoh’s previous looks, a house of Balenciaga’s caliber should really know better. The craftsmanship should have been immaculate. At least the Boucheron jewels brought the necessary level of prestige.

Gothic Glam
Miley Cyrus served up gothic glamour in a way that only she can, opting for a dramatic McQueen look accented with lace gloves. And unlike the overused opera gloves we’ve seen a hundred times, these added just the right amount of edge. Boucheron jewels completed her darkly romantic aesthetic.

Ray of light
Mindy Kaling was a walking ray of light in this Oscar de la Renta Fall 2025 gown, which featured an intricate leaf embellishment that cascaded beautifully down the halter silhouette. The pairing of EFFY Jewelry and Santoni shoes made sure this look was dripping in glamour. A true standout moment.

Strapless Sparkle in Pink
Rachel Sennott is usually our vintage-loving queen, but tonight, she went for something more updated—though some might still call it dated. This Balenciaga Fall 2023 Haute Couture strapless embellished pink dress had all the makings of a fun, glitzy moment, yet she still added Bucherer Fine Jewellery for mored shine.

Sculptural Satin Elegance
Raffey Cassidy was one of my absolute favorites of the night, and for good reason. This Loewe silk satin gown, with its oversized draped ribbon detail on the shoulder, could have easily overwhelmed her, but she wore it with such effortless grace. The fluidity, the modernity, the drama—it all worked. The finishing touch? Vintage earrings, a bracelet, and a ring from Joseph Saidian & Sons that added a touch of old Hollywood glamour.

Corseted and Classic
I know what you’re thinking—Raye in yet another Vivienne Westwood corset gown? Haven’t we seen this before? And the answer is, well, yes. But when a style works this well for someone, why not stick to it? The corseted, vintage-inspired aesthetic is not only a perfect match for her personal style but also for the timeless, theatrical energy of her music. Lorraine Schwartz jewelry provided the perfect final flourish.

A Confusing Couture Moment
There is nothing I like about Storm Reid in this Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2025 Haute Couture dress and cape. I get that she wanted to avoid the traditional fairytale gown, but this just felt like a disjointed mix of ideas that didn’t quite come together. She can do so much better. Pomellato jewelry and Giuseppe Zanotti Lilibeth slingback shoes completed the look.

Dramatic Feathers for the Wrong Occasion
Yasmin Finney’s Harris Reed Fall 2024 dress, with its peacocking feather accents, was pure spectacle—and I would have loved it at the Met Gala, the Venice Film Festival, or Cannes. But for the Oscars? It didn’t quite fit. It felt like it belonged at a more avant-garde, high-concept event rather than Hollywood’s biggest night.

Mirrored Glamour
Broken-mirrored effect dresses were trending on this red carpet, with both Halle Berry and Yvonne Orji embracing the look. Yvonne’s Pamella Roland Spring 2024 geometric mirrored detailed dress was high-shine and futuristic, making for a bold, eye-catching statement. Silver Christian Louboutin sandals rounded out the look.
