HONG KONG- The flag carrier of Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific (CX) has announced that it will commence operations to Munich (MUC) from June 2025 and relaunch its flights to Brussels (BRU) from August 2025. The flights will be operational at a frequency of four times per week.
The airline’s announcement comes in light of its anticipation of returning to pre-pandemic capacity from January 2025 and follows the restart of services on several other routes, including Chicago O’Hare, Christchurch, and Hyderabad (effective next year).
Cathay Pacific Brussels and Munich flights
Cathay Pacific will fly to Brussels and Munich using its Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The 270-seater planes have 38 lie-flat business class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, 28 premium economy seats in a 2-4-2 layout, and 214 economy class seats in the conventional 3-3-3.
The use of A359s on the Brussels and Munich routes means passengers will not be able to experience Cathay Pacific’s new Aria Suite at least initially as its launch is only planned for the airline’s Boeing 777-300ER airplanes.
Cathay’s flights to Brussels, the capital of Belgium, will begin from 3rd August 2025.
For the outbound trips, CX291 will depart HKG at 23:35 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and arrive into BRU at 07:05 on the following mornings with a block time of 13 hours 30 minutes. From 13th August, these timings will be pushed back by 15 minutes.
The inbound service operating as CX294 will takeoff from Brussels at 16:15 (from 3rd to 12th August) and 13:25 thereafter on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and arrive back home into Hong Kong the next morning at 09:45 and 06:55, respectively, following a trip of 11 hours and 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, CX301 will commence operations to Munich from 16th June 2025 and depart Hong Kong at 01:10 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. It will land in Munich at 07:55 after a block time of 12 hours and 45 minutes. The return flight, CX300, will depart MUC at 14:00 and arrive the next morning into HK at 06:55 following a 10 hours and 55 minutes block time.
Lavinia Lau, Cathay’s Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, emphasized the strategic importance of these new routes, highlighting Hong Kong’s role as a global financial and aviation hub. The addition of Munich and Brussels will bring Cathay Pacific’s European destination count to 11, marking a substantial growth in the airline’s international connectivity.
The summer 2025 network will see a considerable increase in passenger flights to Europe, escalating from 78 to 93 weekly return flights. The new route configuration includes four weekly return flights to Munich and Brussels, complementing existing services to major European destinations.
The current European route lineup includes:
- London: Five daily flights
- Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Manchester, Milan, Paris, and Zurich: Daily flights
- Madrid and Barcelona: Four weekly flights (Barcelona as a seasonal summer service)
Beyond direct routes, Cathay Pacific offers extensive connectivity through its home hub, enabling passengers to access 19 destinations in the Chinese Mainland via Cathay Pacific and its low-cost carrier HK Express. The airline projects its passenger network will reach 100 destinations worldwide by 2025.
