Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade Is Returning To Hong Kong

Hong Kong folks, it’s time to mark your calendars for the best Lunar New Year festivities in town. One of the most-awaited celebrations in the city, the Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade, is coming back in style to Tsim Sha Tsui on January 29. Keep reading to know more details.

The theme of this year’s parade is ‘Unfold a Year of Good Fortune’. Viewers will be delighted with nine amazingly designed floats and 46 local and international performing groups – all to ring in the Year of the Snake.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board revealed that this year’s lineup surpasses all past editions, with South Korean girl group Kep1er and Thai boy band LYKN set to participate in the celebrations. The parade will commence around 8 pm at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza and go through Canton Road, Haiphong Road, and Nathan Road before finally reaching the Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers.

Before the parade, a host of local performance groups will entertain the crowd with juggling, magic shows, dance and music to get them into the carnival mood. A whopping 100,000 attendees are expected to grace the event.

There will be dazzling floats showcasing Hong Kong’s rich traditions, crafted by talented local and international performers. The opening float from Cathay Airlines will celebrate the theme of ‘Family Reunion and Abundance’, symbolising the spirit of flying high together. The ‘LINE Friends’ float will make its debut this year, featuring a sailing boat design that represents transformation alongside a character named Sally dressed in a snake hat to represent good luck.

Apart from the float, be ready to witness performances from 16 troupes arriving from 14 different countries. Well-known acts like V.UNBEATABLE Dance Group, acrobatic ensemble Zurcaroh and BRAVERY DANCERS will showcase their brilliance.

Ticket prices and where to get them

Tickets for the Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade are priced between HKD 300 (USD 38.55) and HKD 480 (USD 61.70). The sale begins on January 11 at 8 am on a first-come, first-served basis at the Hong Kong Tourism Board’s visitor centre in Tsim Sha Tsui.
