Cathay Hong Kong flight returns to Boston airport soon after take-off

A Cathay Pacific flight to Hong Kong returned to the US city of Boston shortly after take-off on Monday, with smoke reportedly seen in the cabin.

The Hong Kong flag carrier’s flight CX811 left Boston Logan International Airport at 2.23am local time, according to tracking website Flightradar24.

Reports on social media said smoke was coming from the cabin, although the Post was not able to immediately verify the claims.

Shortly after take-off, the Airbus A350 aircraft began circling above Massachusetts Bay. In such a manoeuvre, a plane may be dumping fuel before making an emergency landing.

The Post has contacted Cathay for comment.

This is the second Cathay Boston-related flight to have encountered problems in less than a month.
