Edgar Allan Poe would’ve approved of Cardi B’s latest fashion spectacle.
Stepping into WWE’s SummerSlam spotlight, the “I Like It” rapper emerged in a colossal black feather gown with a dramatic high-low cut that looked part couture fantasy, part gothic bird of prey.
The piece featured a built-in bodysuit with a plunging sweetheart neckline, leaving Cardi’s legs bare save for black fishnet tights and knee-high lace-up leather boots. An attached coat with off-the-shoulder puff sleeves, and a skirt trailing several body lengths transformed the ring into her personal runway (or bird cage?).
This avian couture moment is the latest in a string of bird-inspired looks we’ve gotten from Cardi. Just weeks ago, she stole the show at Paris Fashion Week in a sculptural Schiaparelli gown with a fringe collar and a live raven perched on her shoulder. At MetLife Stadium, she nodded back to that moment with a digital murder of ravens swirling overhead as she performed.
Maximalist silhouettes are the rapper’s trademark after all. In the past, she’s worn everything from an optical illusion pod dress, a tulle train stretching for what felt like miles, and a rhinestone-encrusted gown blooming with 3D florals.
Cardi’s beauty look was equally bold. She styled her jet-black hair into a sleek high ponytail with face-framing strands and micro bangs grazing her brows. Sculpted cheeks, dark lashes, and a nude lip tied it all together.
If her performance is any indication, the artist’s upcoming album, Am I The Drama?, promises that we’re in for a treat.
