Afoke Edematie, of Snowdrop Way, Bury St Edmunds, was handed a three year driving ban and a suspended prison sentence when he appeared at Suffolk Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
The 42-year-old had previously pleaded guilty to drink driving, using a motor vehicle without insurance, and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
The incident took place on Saturday, May 24, on the A14 at Newmarket.
Officers from Suffolk police spotted a Peugeot 207 being driven erratically.
Inside the vehicle alongside the driver were two children.
At the roadside, Edematie blew 124 micrograms per 100ml of breath, three times the legal limit of 35 micrograms.
Officers also discovered that he did not have valid car insurance and did not hold a current UK driving licence.
Edematie was then arrested and taken to Bury St Edmunds police station, where he failed a further breath test.
Edematie received a sentence of 12 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months.
He was also disqualified from driving for 36 months, given a rehabilitation activity requirement and has to pay a victim surcharge of £154, plus £85 in costs.
