Kevin Lemanowicz, chief meteorologist at WFXT-TV (Boston 25), is stepping down from his role, the station announced.
Lemanowicz joined Boston 25 when it launched in 1996 and has served as the chief meteorologist for the past 30 years, WFXT said. The longtime on-air personality will leave the station next week.
“It has been the privilege of a lifetime to serve this community. Thank you for welcoming me into your homes each night,” Lemanowicz said in a statement. “Having been the only Chief at the station, I am proud of what we have built here and know it will continue to be successful because I am leaving behind the best weather team in Boston.”
During his tenure, Lemanowicz covered several major weather events, including the 2011 tornadoes in Western Massachusetts, the 2015 snowstorms across the state, and the 2023 flooding in Leominster, the station said.
WFXT-TV Chief Meteorologist Kevin Lemanowicz is leaving Boston 25 after 30 years.
In 2016, Lemanowicz was named a Silver Circle honoree by the Boston/New England chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
“It’s rare to see someone dedicate 30 years to one newsroom, and Kevin did so with professionalism, passion, and an unwavering commitment to our viewers,” Scott Isaacs, Boston 25’s news director, said in a statement. “We will miss Kevin’s experience and wisdom when it comes to local weather… not to mention, his forecast is the most accurate in the market! He set a high bar that we will always work hard to maintain.”
Before Lemanowicz joined Boston 25, the native New Englander worked at WTIC in Hartford, the New England Weather Service, Fleetweather, and WVIT-TV, according to his biography.
Lemanowicz holds a degree in meteorology from Cornell University and is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) recognized by the American Meteorological Society.
Why is Kevin Lemanowicz leaving Boston 25?
The station did not provide a reason for Lemanowicz’s departure, though the meteorologist described moving on to the “next chapter” in his statement.
“I am thankful to have worked with the best in the business for the last 30 years,” Lemanowicz said. “Now it’s time for me to look ahead and see what the next chapter holds.”
Boston 25 has not announced who will replace him.
When is Kevin Lemanowicz’s last day on air?
Lemanowicz will leave WFXT-TV (Boston 25) on Friday, Feb. 27, according to the station. The news channel said it “will be celebrating him all next week.”
“Kevin’s commitment to excellence and to the people of New England has defined our weather coverage for decades. We thank him for all he has done here at Boston 25,” said Todd Brown, the station’s vice president and general manager.
