Summer Best

Editor’s note: While Moira Macdonald is on leave, we here at The Mix thought it would be fun to fill the Sunday Best void with a spotlight on local fashionable people, fashion photographers and fashion designers. For the next few weeks, creative director and writer Andrew Hoge will introduce us to people who know a thing or two about fashion and want to show off their “Summer Best.”

Bobbie Yanoupeth lives life in full style. As co-owner of Bahtoh — a floral design studio and hair salon in the Chinatown International District — the florist and hairstylist has built what he calls “a space where people can feel fabulous and comfortable.” That philosophy is evident in his personal style as well.

How did this outfit come together, and what inspired it?

I look for a piece that calls to me, usually starting with a shoe and building the outfit from there. I don’t typically know what I’m going to wear until five minutes before I walk out the door.

How would you describe your style?

What I wear is inspired by the street style I observed while growing up in Beacon Hill. I describe my personal style as a mix of schoolboy and Japanese grandpa, with a street twist.

What are your thoughts on Seattle fashion in the summer?

Previously, summer style in Seattle was not giving, but that has changed in the last year or two. As our city comes alive again, I see people pushing boundaries, whether at the (First Thursday) Art Walk or out and about.
