Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez are set to marry for the second time in Venice, Italy, surrounded by secrecy and rampant speculation. While they have remained mum about the venue, some believe the wedding will take place on Bezo’s yacht
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos will marry former television reporter Lauren Sánchez on Friday (June 27) in a ceremony that’s expected to be one of the most closely observed and private events in recent history.
In 2023, Bezos proposed to Sánchez with a stunning 20-carat pink diamond ring valued at $2.5 million, aboard his luxury yacht named Koru, a term derived from the Maori language meaning “loop” or coil” and representing new beginnings.
Now, over two years later, the couple is reportedly planning to tie the knot on the $500 million superyacht in the picturesque waters near Venice, Italy.

Measuring 417 feet (127 meters) long, the Koru was commissioned by Jeff Bezos in 2018, as reported. Constructed by the Dutch yacht builder Oceanco near Rotterdam, Netherlands, it was delivered to Gibraltar in April 2023. Bezos made a grand entrance to the superyacht via helicopter for its debut voyage in May of the same year.
The yacht’s gross tonnage is 3,493, its beam is 56 feet, and its sail plan covers more than 20,000 square feet. As Boat International states, it sails under the flag of the Cayman Islands, the second most popular registration for yachts.
According to Robb Report, the design of Koru was reportedly inspired by Barry Diller’s schooner Eos, which was built by Germany’s Lürssen Yachts in 2006. While the exterior of the superyacht showcases traditional portholes, the upper decks are equipped with smaller windows for privacy.
A remarkable aspect of Koru is its figurehead, which resembles a woman and adorns the bow of the yacht. However, Sánchez has clarified that the figurehead is not modeled after her. “I’m very flattered, but it’s not,” she said in a Vogue interview. She explained that the figurehead actually represents Freyja, the Norse goddess of love, fertility, and gold.
Despite extensive media attention, the specific details of the wedding plans have been kept under wraps due to security issues and possible protests. According to the New York Times, the Venice locals have expressed that they are upset by the upcoming event.
Unconfirmed reports from Italian newspapers indicate the festivities may occur in stunning locations: a pagoda on Venice’s Lido beach, the island of San Giorgio overlooking the Doge Palace, and the Scuola Grande della Misericordia, a restored Renaissance building known for its wedding ambiance with soaring ceilings.
Details about the guest list remain confidential, but around 200 attendees are anticipated, mostly close friends and family of the couple, who have seven children from previous marriages. A mix of celebrities, tech moguls and political figures will also be present. Notably, President Trump will not attend, but his daughter Ivanka and husband Jared Kushner are expected to be there.
