BEND, Ore. — It’s official. Guinness World Records has recognized 85-year-old Bob Sanders of Bend as the oldest man to bike across the United States.
Sanders completed the coast-to-coast ride earlier this year, finishing in May after months on the road. He says the journey was about more than just distance, it was about connection.
Sanders says the most rewarding part was meeting people at every stop.
But getting the record wasn’t as simple as finishing the ride. He spent weeks gathering documentation and working with Guinness to verify every detail of the journey.
Now back home in Bend, Sanders says the experience gave him a renewed faith in the country despite the divisions he often hears about.
He plans to keep riding, just maybe not across the country again.
