A special event encouraging young girls to be courageous and confident was held in Battle Creek Wednesday.

It was part of Springfield Middle School’s “Girls Empowerment Fashion Show,” which benefits children living or receiving services from Safe Place in Battle Creek.

Safe Place provides emergency shelter for survivors of domestic violence and sex trafficking.

Wednesday night’s event was a runway-style fashion show decked out in pink, showing off one local student’s, Isabella Herr, designer t-shirts.

“We are a service learning school, and so we took this opportunity to be able to give back to Safe Place,” Sierra Blair, a teacher at Springfield Middle School, said. “I actually sit on the board at Safe Place, and we try to help the kids there and help them with services that they offer. And so, we really wanted to be able to use our service learning to help our community.”

The event was attended by none other than Mrs. Michigan 2025, Tamara Babcock.

Babcock gave a special speech to the girls, encouraging them to strive for all they can and to never doubt themselves.
