Barbertown Worcester burglar returns four times in one night

Barbertown Worcester on The Tything has been left with an estimated £4,000 bill after a burglary yesterday (October 9) morning.

They took a variety of items, from the till to alcohol, hair products, and even a gym bag. The thief also damaged the door of the Grade I listed building.

Jon Bourne, owner of Barbertown Worcester, said: “We got an alert at around 6am from the window cleaner who said that it looks like we had been broken into.

“We got there at about 6.30am and the door had been put through.

“We looked at CCTV, and a man gained entry at around 12.50am, stole the till, and ran off. He came back ten minutes later and closed the door.

“He came back maybe an hour later with bags. We have a craft beer fridge and emptied that.

“Came back again another 40 minutes later, went to the back of the shop where we have a fully licensed bar and took a load of alcohol including a rare SAS whiskey bottle that was a gift.

“He took other items like a mountain bike as well as personal items like a gym kit as well as hair and beard products filled his rucksack, and left.

“It’s a Grade I listed building and he made a real mess of the door that will cost a few quid and probably come out of my pocket.”

Mr Bourne added: “We managed to catch it on CCTV so hopefully the police will find him.

“This is the second time this year with the shop in Droitwich getting done in January. That guy got 16 weeks.

“I’ve had Barbertown in Worcester for nearly 17 years now, and this is the sixth or seventh time I’ve been done.

“You get a broken window every now and then but we are in a busy location. It’s not great.

“We’re insured but it will still cost a lot of money. We are open, but just all boarded up.

“The police were great and gave a really good service.

“The thief left for the last time at about 3.20am.

“We have had a great response on social media, and I would like to thank everyone for their support.

“It’s just tough and really frustrating. I haven’t got an exact figure just yet, but the door repairs alone are going to be expensive as it’s a Grade I listed shop front. I reckon all in around the £4,000 mark.”

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called yesterday morning (October 9) to reports of a burglary at Barbertown on the Tything.

“The burglary took place overnight between 10pm on Wednesday night (October 8) and 6.40am on Thursday morning. It is believed the suspects forced entry into the shop and stole the till. Enquiries are ongoing.”
