Audubon’s Capybaras has Groundhog’s Day prediction

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Audubon Zoo’s capybaras are doing their own weather forecasting on Groundhog Day.

Tiana, Charlotte and Louis, who were born in 2025 to parents Turkey and Sequoia, was released into the field Monday, Feb. 2, but not to see their shadows.

Instead, their job was to decide if there was going to be six more weeks of gumbo weather or to begin snowball season.

In a unanimous decision, the young capybaras chose it was time to enjoy a snowball and that Spring was on the way.

The weather telling siblings can be seen in the Jaguar Jungle River’s Edge along with their parents and five baby siblings.
