Attack on Pik Uk Prison officer allegedly orchestrated by disgruntled Sun Yee On inmate

2nd November 2024 – (Hong Kong) A violent attack on an Assistant Officer I outside Pik Uk Prison on Friday has been attributed to ongoing tensions involving organised crime. The officer, who was ambushed by three masked men while waiting at a minibus stop, suffered multiple stab wounds and a fractured wrist, but is currently in stable condition after receiving treatment.

Reports suggest that the assailants had ties to the Sun Yee On triad and were motivated by grievances held by a male inmate against the officer. It is believed that the inmate orchestrated the attack from within the prison, instructing his associates to carry out the ambush.

Reports indicate that the three attackers did not use knives as weapons; instead, they wielded long, rigid acrylic strips. In addition to the four men directly involved in orchestrating, carrying out the attack, and driving the getaway vehicle, the remaining arrested individuals are suspected of planning the crime or providing assistance in some manner.

Shortly after the attack, police apprehended eight local men, aged between 16 and 37, all of whom have criminal backgrounds. The arrests followed an investigation led by the Organised Crime and Triad Bureau, which is examining the suspects’ roles in the crime and any connections they may have had with the victim.

Authorities are exploring whether the motive for the attack was directly linked to the officer’s professional duties. Although no evidence has emerged to suggest a personal dispute related to the officer’s financial or private life, the investigation is ongoing. Police are particularly interested in understanding whether directives for the assault originated from within the prison, indicating a possible conspiracy.
