Kate Hudson may be following in her mother Goldie Hawn’s footsteps — and not just when it comes to her career. She appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show to talk about her three-year engagement to musician Danny Fujikawa that may very well never materialize into marriage.
“I just don’t have the same kind of like, Oh my God, I’m going to get married, and I can’t wait. And I can’t wait for the party. It’s the opposite,” she said. “I’m like, Okay, I have to plan it and then it’s going to cost so much money, and it’s just a lot.” It’s nice to know that even celebrities realize weddings have gotten out of control.
“I like the idea of being engaged forever. The contractual thing is tough for me. I like my freedom,” she said, noting that she was raised by Hawn and Kurt Russell, who have been together since the ’80s, never got married, and are totally happy that way. Love that for them.
Hudson and Fujikawa have been together since 2017 and share a 6-year-old daughter, Rani, together. The actress also has two sons, Ryder and Bingham, with two other former partners, and it looks as though leading an unconventional life is working out for her perfectly fine. “It might not look traditional from the outside, but on the inside I feel like we’re killing it,” she told the Sunday Times in 2022. “The unit that I’ve created with three children with three different fathers is a seriously strong unit, and it’s ours.” Who needs marriage when you have that?
While Hudson’s still iffy on having a wedding with all the bells and whistles, she did tell Barrymore that an elopement sounds enticing. But, she noted, she probably wouldn’t tell anyone until the day of anyway. Is there a word for the opposite of a bridezilla?
