RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Heart disease is very common and is the number one killer among men, women and people of most racial and ethnic groups.
One in every four deaths is a result of heart disease every year, and cardiovascular disease is more deadly than all forms of cancer combined.
Joseph Stevenson, a cardiologist at Reno Heart and Vascular Institute, shared how the best thing people can do for themselves and their heart health is to get screenings.
“People will say ‘I feel fine, and I’m asymptomatic’, from breast cancer or colon cancer but they still get the colonoscopy and get the mammogram just like recommended. So people are getting those, but they’re not getting their cardiac screenings”, Stevenson shared.
There is no “golden ticket” when it comes to heart health, how you live now can affect your cardiovascular health, and the risks you become subjected to.
