Alexandria private equity firm DC Capital acquires UK maritime technology company

Alexandria-based private equity firm DC Capital Partners has acquired Aeronautical & General Instruments Limited, a leading UK provider of integrated maritime technologies and systems.

The acquisition, announced Friday, allows AGI to operate as an independent company after being owned by Trident Maritime Systems since 2022. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

AGI was formed in 2017 through the merger of two British engineering companies — Aeronautical and General Instruments Limited and Aish Technologies Limited — each with more than 100 years of operational history. The companies have been instrumental in shaping naval technology in the UK and internationally.

DC Capital Partners focuses on making control investments in middle-market, U.S.-based government and engineering companies. The firm said AGI’s capabilities align with increased global defense spending by allied nations.

“We are delighted to welcome AGI into the DC Capital portfolio,” said Thomas J. Campbell, founder and managing partner of DC Capital. “The AGI team shares our core values of always doing the right thing and treating people the way you want to be treated.”

Jeff Weber of DC Capital Partners said the company’s legacy and capabilities are critical to allied navies.

“AGI’s deep legacy, recent transformation, and future-facing ambition align strongly with our mission,” Weber said. “The company has unique capabilities that are critical to allied navies, and we will continue to invest in these capabilities to ensure the continued success of the business.”

Over the past three years, AGI has undergone a substantial transformation, merging its two founding companies into a single organization. The company delivers systems across command and control, navigation aids, rugged electronics, secure enclosures, and lighting technologies.

David Hyde, chief executive officer of AGI, said the acquisition represents an opportunity to accelerate investment and expand capabilities.

“This next chapter under the ownership of DC Capital Partners marks an exciting opportunity to accelerate investment, expand our capabilities, and strengthen our support to customers in the UK and internationally,” Hyde said.

The company serves naval and commercial maritime markets with solutions in navigation, control, enclosures, and integrated platform systems.

Terms of the deal were not announced.
