Several service updates go into effect today on Airport Express ahead of the Easter holiday travel peak, including new QR code ticket machines and expanded hotel shuttle connections.
Three urban MTR stations – Hong Kong, Kowloon and Tsing Yi – have each installed two additional self-service QR code ticket machines accepting multiple e-payment options.
The “ride first, pay later” system allows arriving passengers to board without purchasing tickets at the airport. They complete their payment upon exit at their destination.
A dedicated hotel shuttle waiting area opened on the U2 level of Tsing Yi station, completing the network’s coverage across all three urban stops.
The shuttles now serve 13 hotels, including Hotel COZi Oasis in Tsuen Wan.
Travelers welcomed the improvements.
”The QR code machines save so much time,” said Jennie, a Nanjing resident transiting from Canada, recalling previous cash-only ticket queues that were long.
Thai visitors Luke and Grace, on their second Airport Express trip, praised its reliability: “Unlike taxis stuck in traffic, the train is always on schedule and has reasonable fares.”
A local, Wan, also complimented the train’s spacious seating.
The enhancements coincide with MTR’s Easter promotions that run through May 5, during which children aged between three and 11 can travel free on Airport Express using child Octopus cards.
Those in groups can enjoy discounted tickets that average HK$42.50 per person.
