Airalo, the world’s most popular eSIM platform, has rolled out a major redesign for its iOS and Android apps, and I’m already enjoying the new look.
The company describes the update as an “enhanced App experience” that’s focused on “making connectivity more intuitive” for all its customers. In other words, making the process of buying, setting up and renewing an eSIM as straightforward as possible.
The new app has a generally cleaner aesthetic, with a revamped home screen and less clutter, but new features have also been added.
These include the ability to compare eSIM contracts side-by-side, device compatibility alerts prior to purchase and a greater range of packages to choose from. New installation instructions are designed to be easier to follow, and there’s a feature within the app to check if you’re connected properly.

Combined, these should make the process of using eSIMs much less intimidating and complicated.
It’s something I noticed last week, when buying an eSIM to use while testing the iPhone Air. Apple’s new ultra-slim phone is eSIM-only around the world, meaning my usual method of switching physical SIM cards wouldn’t work.
I hadn’t tried buying an eSIM with one phone and then scanning a QR code on another before, but the process was totally seamless.
However, most of the time, I’m using an eSIM for international travel. While my UK SIM includes free EU roaming, it can be a nightmare when travelling outside of that. Instead of waiting in a queue at the airport for a local SIM card that may be expensive and difficult to set up, an eSIM means I’m connected the moment my plane touches down.
I’ve used Airalo for each of my three trips to the US in the last year, and it’s never let me down. With an estimated 20 million customers around the world, I’m far from alone.
Airalo’s app redesign is available now for all recent iPhones and Android phones. If you don’t see it yet, head to the Google Play Store to manually check and install any available updates.
