Earlier this year, UFC superstar Conor McGregor impressed everyone with his antagonistic role as ‘The Knox’ in his Hollywood debut, Roadhouse, alongside Jake Gyllenhaal. However, the makers of the movie doubted its potential, so they decided not to release it in theaters and opted for Amazon Prime, turning all predictions upside down.
The movie became the number one most-watched film of all time on Prime, with maximum credit going to McGregor, who publicly announced its success on Twitter, claiming, “Roadhouse is becoming their most-watched movie of all time! 50 million viewers over two weekends. That’s $750 million at the box office—in 10 days!” Now, months after the movie’s release, there is an ache in Conor McGregor’s gut, which he opened up about in his latest livestream.

Conor McGregor left the MMA community in a frenzy yesterday when he unexpectedly showed up on the Duelbits streaming service for a 1 hour and 48-minute long Q&A session with his fans. Suddenly, one fan shifted the conversation to inquire about updates on the theatrical release of his movie Roadhouse, to which McGregor expressed uncertainty, stating, “Amazon Prime promotion through all the cinemas—let’s see what we do at the box office with Roadhouse. It’s a go-to movie to watch, and we had the most streams of all movies on Amazon Prime. I hold the record with Roadhouse. Bring it to the box office now and bring it through the pictures.”
McGregor further compared his movie to Adam Sandler’s Uncut Gems, which, like Roadhouse, was initially released on Netflix. However, seeing its potential, the makers decided to run it through cinemas. Conor McGregor hopes for a similar approach, saying, “Similar to what Adam Sandler did with his diamond movie. He had it on Netflix and then ran it through the box office.” McGregor also appreciated this release strategy, claiming, “I think it’s a good system; everyone wins.”

No doubt that Conor McGregor’s claims carry substance and should be considered by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, which could lead to a profitable deal for both the producers and Prime. However, with his top-notch acting, McGregor not only impresses the fans but also his co-star Jake Gyllenhaal, as he opened up about in his interview.

A year ago, when the trailer for the Road House movie dropped, fight fans, along with movie enthusiasts, were left with their jaws dropped after catching a glimpse of Conor McGregor in it. Fans couldn’t decide whether they had just watched a movie trailer or a UFC promo, which even led some to comment, “Conor playing Conor,” due to the similarity between McGregor’s role as ‘Knox’ and his real-life persona.

This even impressed Jake Gyllenhaal, who couldn’t stop praising McGregor’s learning skills during a promotional interview for the movie. He stated, “I think we all had great respect for the fight game. The same thing happened with Conor when he came to the movie set. He came in and said, ‘I’m a white belt. I’m here to learn. I don’t know anything about making movies or acting, and I want to learn.’ That type of humility in that space, I tried to bring the same way on the opposite end.”
