Manchester United are planning a post-season trip to Malaysia and Hong Kong for a big-money tour that could bank the club around US$10 million, with the Red Devils rumored to fly into Hong Kong in May, according to reports.
Sources suggested that cash-strapped United would jet out immediately at the end of the Premier League campaign and before scheduled international fixtures. United’s last game of the season will be the final day of the Premier League on May 25.
The news came as Hong Kong is set to debut its Kai Tak Sports Park in March, with several top football clubs rumored to visit Hong Kong this summer.
Apart from Manchester United, current Premier League leaders Liverpool, second-placed Arsenal, and even Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are reportedly interested in playing at the new stadium during their pre-season tour.
Meanwhile, it is understood that United, along with English sides Bournemouth, West Ham United and Everton are “in advanced talks” to participate in the 2025 Summer Series event in the U.S. at the end of July.
It was reported that both Liverpool and Arsenal had turned down invitations to the event, with both clubs eyeing an Asia tour this summer.
Paul Kam, whose ProEvents Group has attracted a number of major clubs to the region, previously told an interview that the likes of United, Liverpool, Arsenal and PSG, were all interested in being part of the first major football match at the 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium.
Hong Kong football fans could really be in for a treat if all these top clubs have confirmed their visit to the city.
