13th February 2025 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong Customs intercepted a major drug trafficking attempt at Hong Kong International Airport on 13th February, seizing approximately 8 kilograms of suspected “space oil drug,” an illicit substance containing the controlled ingredient etomidate. The haul, concealed within packets of fruit-flavoured drink powder, has an estimated street value of HK$8.4 million. Additionally, two suspected alternative smoking products were also confiscated.
The suspect, a 22-year-old male passenger, had arrived from Bangkok, Thailand. During routine customs checks, officers discovered the concealed contraband in his checked luggage and backpack. The man was immediately arrested, and investigations into the case are ongoing.
Hong Kong Customs stated it will continue to adopt a risk-based approach, targeting passengers from high-risk regions to combat cross-border drug trafficking. This operation highlights the department’s commitment to curbing illicit activities and safeguarding public health.
