Mable Chan inspects West Kowloon station as operators prepared for LNY travel rush

Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan inspected the West Kowloon high-speed rail station and thanked public transport operators for enhancing their service during Lunar New Year.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, the Transport and Logistics Bureau said Chan thanked MTR staffers for sticking to their post during her visit to the high-speed rail station, which maintains the connection to 93 mainland destinations during the holiday.

The eight-day Lunar New Year Golden Week on the mainland will span from January 28  to February 4.

“Lunar New Year is a peak travel period for citizens and tourists,” the bureau said.

“[Chan] has expressed her gratitude to public transport operators for enhancing their services during the festive peak season so that Hongkongers and visitors from all around the world could continue to experience the efficient, convenient and comfortable public transport service in Hong Kong,” it added.

MTR has earlier announced to provide more than 1,600 additional trips throughout the holiday period and will offer overnight services on Lunar New Year’s Eve on Tuesday (Jan 28).

Starting last Friday (Jan 24) and until February 4, train frequencies of the Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line, East Rail Line, and South Island Line will be enhanced during designated periods on weekends and public holidays.

To facilitate passengers watching the fireworks display, train frequencies on Thursday (Jan 30) – including Kwun Tong Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Island Line, South Island Line, Tuen Ma Line, East Rail Line and Tung Chung Line – will be enhanced before and after the fireworks show.

The Transport Department will also enhance transportation services connecting various boundary control points, including increasing the shuttle bus frequency at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, as well as the Lok Ma Chau-Huanggang cross-border shuttle bus.

Furthermore, in the early hours from January 29 to 31, after the service hours of the East Rail Line trains to Lo Wu Station, a special enhanced bus service KMB Route N73 will be provided at the MTR Sheung Shui Station to carry passengers to the Lok Ma Chau-Huanggang cross-border shuttle bus interchange for their journey to the mainland.
