LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A crash in the middle of a major construction zone on south U.S. 127 shut down all southbound lanes of traffic on the highway Tuesday afternoon.

Ingham County sent an alert at 3:07 p.m. announcing southbound U.S. 127 south of Saginaw was closed “due to an accident in the construction zone.” Authorities are encouraging drivers to find alternative routes.

As of 4 p.m., MDOT said the crash scene was cleared, but traffic remains very congested in the area.

The Michigan Department of Transportation traffic map also shows an alert. The U.S. 127 at Interstate 496 interchange has been undergoing major construction for months.
