School bus flips into pond in Racine County, no injuries reported

A school bus flipped into a shallow pond after failing to yield to a sedan at Wisconsin Highway 36 and South Wind Lake Road in the Town of Norway on Nov. 26, 2024. The Racine County Sheriff's Office responded at approximately 6:11 a.m.

A school bus flipped over into a shallow pond early Tuesday morning in Racine County.

According to the Racine County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision at Wisconsin Highway 36 and South Wind Lake Road in the Town of Norway shortly after 6 a.m.

The school bus was traveling westbound on South Wind Lake Road. The sheriff’s office said the bus stopped for the stop sign on the east side of Highway 36, proceeded across the highway and then failed to yield to a Pontiac sedan traveling southbound on the highway.

The impact of the collision caused the bus to overturn and land on its roof in the small pond.

The bus was only occupied by the driver at the time of the crash, and the pond was only a few feet deep. No injuries were reported.
