The debate between early and light dinner is long-standing. For years, experts have recommended not eating after sunset if you want to shed extra kilos. A recent groundbreaking study from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) and Columbia University has claimed that consuming over 45% of daily calories after 5 pm significantly disrupts blood sugar regulation, increasing the risk of developing diabetes. Here’s everything to know about the study.
Having Dinner After 5 pm Can Have Serious Side Effects: Study
The study was centred around 26 individuals between the ages of 50 and 75. The participants were particularly overweight or diagnosed with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. They were split into two groups—early eaters and late eaters. They consumed identical meals with the same caloric intake but at different times.
The results showed that late eaters had elevated glucose levels, signaling poorer glucose tolerance.
