25th November 2024 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong is set to experience a major drop in temperatures beginning tonight as an easterly airstream affects the coast of Guangdong. A cold front currently situated over northern southern China is advancing southwards and is expected to cross the coastal areas of Guangdong around midnight. This will be accompanied by a strong northeast monsoon that is forecast to impact the region from tomorrow.
This afternoon, the weather is predicted to be mainly cloudy with occasional showers, although sunny intervals are expected later. Winds will be moderate to fresh, shifting from the east to the northeast.
As the cold front moves in, winds will strengthen from the north, leading to progressively cooler temperatures over the next few days. Mornings and nights will feel particularly cool, with urban areas likely to see temperatures drop to approximately 15 degrees Celsius on Thursday and Friday. The New Territories could experience temperatures a few degrees lower. Overall, the weather is expected to be mainly fine and very dry, but with notable temperature fluctuations between day and night.
The intense northeast monsoon will not only lower temperatures but also contribute to a fine and dry weather pattern across Guangdong. Following this cold spell, a slight rise in temperatures is anticipated early next week as the monsoon moderates. A dry easterly airstream is also expected to impact the southern coast of China in the coming days.
